Four BTP Pillars Share One Identity, One Substrate

SAP BTP organises every workload across four pillars. Application Development hosts extensions, side-by-side apps, and low-code launchpads outside the digital core. Integration governs API-led and event-driven flows between SAP and non-SAP systems. Data and Analytics provides federated business semantics so AI workloads ground on trusted data. AI runs Joule, custom agents, and embedded models on the same substrate.

01 · Application Development

Extensions outside the digital Core

The pillar that delivers clean-core extensions, side-by-side applications, and low-code surfaces. Pro-code teams ship on Cloud Foundry and Kyma; citizen developers ship on SAP Build without touching standard SAP code.

Cloud Foundry Kyma SAP Build
02 · Integration

Governed flows, not point-to-point sprawl

The pillar that retires per-system adapters. Cloud Integration, API Management, and Event Mesh deliver managed flows and 200+ pre-packaged integration scenarios across SAP and non-SAP systems.

Integration Suite Event Mesh Open Connectors
03 · Data and Analytics

Business semantics, federated and AI-ready

The pillar that grounds Joule and Analytics on one semantic layer. Datasphere federates S/4HANA, Ariba, SuccessFactors, and non-SAP sources without disturbing the source systems or duplicating data.

Datasphere HANA Cloud Analytics Cloud
04 · AI

Joule, agents, and models on one substrate

The pillar that hosts SAP's GenAI stack. AI Core entitles model access across OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Mistral; AI Foundation bundles vector stores and Joule grounding; Joule Studio is the agent design surface.

AI Core AI Foundation Joule Studio

Shared substrate. All four pillars share one Cloud Identity tenant, one entitlement model, and one operations plane. The same subaccount that hosts a Cloud Foundry runtime also entitles AI Core and Datasphere, which is why BTP foundation setup is a single workstream rather than four parallel ones.

Implementation Journey

How Do Enterprises Implement SAP BTP?

SAP BTP implementation runs through the account model, identity layer, service entitlements, and operations governance defined by SAP's BTP Setup Guide. The four-step journey below mirrors SAP's own published implementation discipline, not a BCS framework on top.

01

Account model and directory design

Global account, directories, and subaccounts modelled per SAP's recommended account hierarchy. Regional placement and environment separation (dev, test, production) decided against the workload roadmap. The account model defines how every later entitlement and authorisation rolls up.

02

Identity Authentication and trust

Cloud Identity Services configured as the unified tenant. Trust established with corporate IdPs and SAP applications (Cloud ERP, SuccessFactors, Ariba). Identity Authentication, Identity Provisioning, and Authorization Management land before workloads reach users — every later activation depends on this layer.

03

Service entitlement and connectivity

Service plans and quotas assigned per subaccount via the Booster / Discovery Center pattern. Cloud Foundry runtime, Kyma, AI Core, Build Work Zone, and Integration Suite entitled against the workload roadmap. Cloud Connector configured for on-premise system reach.

04

Security baseline and operations governance

Audit Log, Cloud Application Security, and cyber resilience baseline configured per SAP's security best practices. BTP Cockpit usage policy, cost-allocation tags, and quarterly innovation intake operationalised. The platform moves from setup to a continuous platform discipline.

Impact

Impact Of SAP BTP

BTP is the single substrate carrying Joule, integration flows, data semantics, identity, and clean-core extensions. The benefits below are what BTP brings into the SAP ERP estate when it activates as foundation rather than a side platform.

Clean-core safety

Extensions live on Cloud Foundry and Kyma, outside the digital core. Quarterly Cloud ERP upgrades land without remediation; technical debt does not accumulate inside the standard.

AI execution surface

Joule, custom agents, AI Core, and the Generative AI Hub run on one entitlement plane. The same subaccount that carries Cloud Foundry workloads also entitles agentic AI.

Integration governance

200+ pre-built Integration Suite scenarios replace point-to-point integrations across SAP and non-SAP. Cloud Integration, API Management, and Event Mesh share one governance surface.

Identity unification

Cloud Identity Services trusts every SAP application and integrates with corporate IdPs. One identity surface to govern across HR, ERP, procurement, and BTP — no per-application IdP sprawl.

Data layer alignment

Datasphere grounds Joule responses and Analytics Cloud models on the same semantic layer. Federated business data replaces ETL into a separate warehouse — data stays in source systems with live access.

Continuous innovation cadence

BTP services receive continuous quarterly updates through the SAP subscription. New AI Foundation features, Integration Suite scenarios, and Joule agents land automatically — no platform upgrade project budget.

Hyperscaler portability

Workloads run on AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or SAP Sovereign Cloud under one BTP subscription. Infrastructure choice fits sovereignty and latency needs without re-architecture.

Capabilities

Components Of SAP BTP

Nine capabilities organised across the five BTP layers. Every one is in the standard BTP catalogue and forms the de facto baseline for any RISE or GROW estate running agentic workloads.

Runtime

Cloud Foundry runtime

The default pro-code runtime on BTP. Hosts Node.js, Java, Python, and CAP applications with managed scaling, routes, and platform services.

Runtime

Kyma (kubernetes)

The managed Kubernetes runtime on BTP for serverless functions, custom controllers, and event-driven extensions where Cloud Foundry is too constrained.

Runtime

SAP Build (low-Code)

Build Apps, Build Process Automation, and Build Work Zone. Citizen developers ship apps, workflows, and Joule-ready launchpads without writing code.

Integration

Integration Suite

Cloud Integration, API Management, Open Connectors, and Event Mesh. 200+ pre-packaged integrations plus an agentic integration design surface.

Integration

Event Mesh

The asynchronous backbone connecting S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, Ariba, and external systems. Required for agent-to-agent and reactive workflows.

Data

Datasphere

Federated business data layer with semantic modelling, harmonisation, and live access to S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, Ariba, and non-SAP sources.

Identity

Cloud Identity Services

Identity Authentication, Identity Provisioning, and Authorization Management. The unified tenant that Joule, Build, and AI Core all trust.

AI

AI Core and AI Foundation

Hosted GenAI Hub with access to OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Mistral models. Vector stores, document extraction, and Joule grounding live here.

AI

Joule Studio on BTP

No-code agent builder running on BTP with Cursor and Claude Code support. Custom agents draw from Datasphere semantics and execute via AI Core.

How BCS Delivers This

How Does BCS Implement BTP?

BTP is no longer an evaluation. Joule, AI Core, Build, and Integration Suite all sit on the same foundation. BCS sequences six BTP workstreams so the platform carries 2026 innovation rather than becoming another renamed sandbox.

About BCS

The Agentic System Integrator Built For SAP

BCS is the world's first agentic system integrator. Twelve years of SAP delivery across 40+ enterprise programmes, paired with three proprietary platforms (Symphony, deKorvai, Anugal), make BTP foundation work a continuous-operations event rather than a one-off project.

Senior BTP architects design the platform. Symphony runs it. deKorvai keeps the data defensible. Anugal keeps the identity surface governed. The result is a BTP estate that ships AI, integration, and extensions on the same governed substrate.

Which BCS Platforms Shape BTP Delivery?

Symphony

BTP rollouts touch eight or more services concurrently: Cloud Foundry, AI Core, Build, Integration Suite, Cloud Identity, Datasphere, Event Mesh, Kyma. Symphony orchestrates the entitlement, subaccount layout, and trust setup in parallel, then provides the run-time control plane for BTP operations.

DeKorvai

Datasphere and AI Core are only as accurate as the data feeding them. deKorvai validates and scrambles business data flowing into BTP from S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, and Ariba. Joule responses, Build apps, and AI Core models all stay defensible against an audit.

Know more

Anugal

BTP introduces dozens of new identity surfaces: subaccount roles, AI Core consumers, Build app permissions, Integration Suite tenants. Anugal IGA keeps BTP authorization aligned with segregation-of-duties and access certification across the human plus agentic workforce that BTP enables.

Frequently Asked Questions

Refer to this section for answers to frequently asked questions related to SAP Business Technology Platform foundation, services, pricing, and migration.

What Services are included in SAP business technology platform?

SAP BTP includes 100+ services grouped into five capability domains:
  • Application development. Cloud Foundry, Kyma, SAP Build (Apps, Process Automation, Work Zone).
  • Integration. Integration Suite with Cloud Integration, API Management, Event Mesh.
  • Data and analytics. Datasphere, SAP Analytics Cloud, HANA Cloud.
  • AI. AI Core, Generative AI Hub, Joule Studio.
  • Identity and security. Cloud Identity Services, Cloud Connector, Audit Log.

What pricing models does BTP use: CPEA, PAYG, or subscription?

SAP BTP supports three commercial models. Cloud Platform Enterprise Agreement (CPEA) is a prepaid annual commitment with cloud credits used flexibly across services. Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) bills monthly per consumption with no commitment. Service-specific subscription is a fixed annual fee per service. RISE with SAP and GROW with SAP include BTP credits inside the bundle.

How is BTP different from a hyperscaler like AWS or Azure?

BTP is the SAP-aware Platform-as-a-Service that runs on hyperscaler infrastructure. AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud provide the IaaS layer (compute, storage, network). BTP adds SAP-native services on top: clean-core extensions, Joule grounding on Datasphere, signed integrations to S/4HANA, Cloud Identity trust to SAP applications, and entitlements tied to SAP licensing.

Is BTP required for SAP Joule and custom AI agents?

Yes. Joule, Joule Studio, custom agents, and the SAP AI Agent Hub all run on BTP services. Activation requires a BTP subaccount with Cloud Foundry runtime, AI Core entitlement, Cloud Identity Services on a unified tenant, and Build Work Zone for the launchpad. Pure on-premise SAP installations cannot access Joule or the agent protocol.

How is legacy custom ABAP Code migrated to BTP?

Legacy SAP customisations are evaluated against the clean-core principle. In-app extensions stay in S/4HANA under Cloud ABAP. Side-by-side extensions move to BTP as CAP or RAP services running on Cloud Foundry. Reports and forms migrate to SAP Build or Analytics Cloud. SAP Code Inspector and ABAP Test Cockpit identify which objects are candidates for each route.
